1st Kreb's Friday Night Race
Friday, work took a bit more time Friday night then I liked, but just managed to get last minute to sign in. Meeting the only other GAB Karl, who was surprised to see me, as I almost resigned in previous Email update.
The parking lot was pretty full, surprisingly full for this race series. A good number of teams and strong riders. I am sorry, not yet know all your names. At the start line about 30 riders lined up for the A race. Shooting out fast from the beginning. Plenty of surges and break off attempts. Nothing sticking until lap about lap 10. That time I just moved a bit back to recover and that time not even realized a break of 7 guy took off. The only suspicious sign I nothing was some pick up in speed for about one lap that time. From then I moved up again working and playing the game I still not yet fully figured out -- may be normal and always a bit of variation. The two primes I more or less ignored.
I do not remember the exact lap, but with 4 or 5 laps to go I found my self once again pulling up and around that turn to the finish line and suddenly realized no one followed me, big gap. I knew I can not do it my self and eased up a bit. Two riders came up -- Myles (Kissena) and Tom (EECT). We worked nicely together and left the far behind, I could not see it at any time any longer. With 2 laps to go I noticed a short hiss from my rear wheel. First though it's going fat -- oh no... -- but no, it hold, may be the brake rubbing for a sec, weird. Kept pulling like mad, about or even faster than at my last TT. Rotation, matching out power, working great. With one lap to go, I knew, I can hold it with just little support and we did it, rolled in 8/9/10th. One more lap for cool down.
While waiting for every to return to the finish and the results my rear tire got more soft... have a feeling the sealant I used to fix the flat it (tubular Conti Comp) suffered at the CSR RR mile 67 after the damn rusty dangerous bridge is catching up again to it. It hold OK for Husatonic RR. May be it's time to retire it, even a bit early.
Great work, tough power surges and a steady high output finish for me on 8th. Big thanks for the great help to get this finished up guys!!!
