More cross training - 5min mile or such helps...
Friday, more snowboarding - four hours of power/strength and action training.
Saturday - dedicated easy day with old friends, a easy two or three hour walk at 1800m in a winter wonder land at Gruesch-Danusa. Back in Seewies, while others are heading for the pool accross the street, Py changed into winter running gear, well, only light hiking boots. About one hour before sun down... Heading out and up, up and up the road towards Vilan/Valcaus. After a steady run for 5.3km on icy and later snow packed roads and climbing exact 500m (1500ft) - his slowest 5k - about 35min passed by. Returning with Alpenglow - red glowing peaks illuminated by the shortly setting sun, just little faster downhill due to precaution of icy conditions. Bday party of his friend the following night, a good pre-party workout.
Sunday, late night, slow morning as expected, nice easy 10k hike with few remaining friends, easy day.
Monday, early up, taking the very first goldola at 8:15 up to Gruesch-Danusa, 1800m again. Sunny, very cold (-11C) that time. Renting Skating (XC) ski. Heading for two laps on top of the mountain, rolling terrain, few good climbs. But worsed, most of the groomed lap was still in the shade and thus the snow very cold and gliding about impossible - beeing a pain to make any speed. So what, a good workout either way. Enjoying the few sunny spots and downhills. 2 hours and done for the day. Early lunch at the mountain top and return down to the Landquart valley. To catch the bus, a short run to the trainstation...
Later he was on his way to the airport for a short trip to home home in northern Germany.
Well, all was planned smoothly.... but, the fast ICN train he wanted to take (15:08) to reach Zurich - never made it to Lq, first 6min delayed (no big deal), but shortly later, canceled due to a mechanical problem in Chur. Great. Well, suggested connection: The shortly on next platform arriving Regio Express (15:26) - however, this train is not going non-stopp like the ICN but stopps about a dozen times and is about 25min slower - the total dalay summing up to at least 45min... things getting tight to catch the plane - well, to be found out. No options. Optimizing connection to Zurich Airport at Zurich main station running over to S2 to save 10min instead of taking the train next platform.
Sprinting to Swiss checkin - only to be told too late, find the rebooking desk on the other end of the airport... dissapointed,as he already checked in online and still 20min to boarding. After waisting time waiting in line for rebookin, discussing wiht the lady, finally agreed to rebook for 9p flight on curtesy, the lady figured (he told both before), Py was checked in already and got all exited "Sie muessen einsteigen..." = "you have to board...". All sudden, she printed a boarding pass and told me "Sie muessen aber rennen" = "run"...
Well, all I wanted to hear. And off I took, fastest security check and boarding of my life. With 1 minute to closing doors I found my seat.
One thing a 5 min mile may be good for. Happily asking and getting a glass of water on the plane.
The plane was as usual very on time and landet early. My dad and Quintus (our now 1yr old old Shepard dog) just arrived. Great dinner -- very tasty baked goose and red cabbage -- at home sweat home :-)
