The Growth of the GAB!!!!
It was December 2007 when I was talking to Joe Cline about possibly racing in Central Park for the upcoming season. . I was picking his brain for information regarding the Spring Series. Being that I have never raced their before, I was eager to push myself harder on the bike and I thought that would be a great way to achieve that goal. I thought...perhaps I could tag along with the EECT race team and maybe provide some race support for the established racers. Joe implied...the team was full and it was somewhat counter productive to add too many riders to the team. It left me confused, somewhat dissapointed and not sure if I was going to venture into Central Park to race by myself. It was then Joe mentioned..."Owen was starting his own sub team" and maybe you give him a call. So I did. He had assembled 4 riders and I would make 5. He mentioned he was creating a "sub team" and at first I thought "this is alittle awkward" as we are going to be racing for and against guys we rode with weekly during our training rides. So to help distinguish ourselves from the other EECT Racers...we will wear Green Arm Bands on our sleeve (hence..The Green Arm Bandits) It was a clear move of defiance to seperate ourselves and form the "GAB" and away it went. Now, heading into season 3, the team has grown from 5 racers to 9, has gained Corporate Sponsorship, developed it's own Website/created it's own Race Kit
and is developing merchandise as well. Now all that's left is for the GAB to secure its 1st Victory. With the strong and commited racers heading into this season...I would think that is very possible. Owen should be very proud of his efforts, he set out to form a sub team and is on his way to creating a great team.
